Fluorescence Microscopy
Fluorescence microscopy even allows users to determine the distribution of a single molecule species, its amount and its localization inside a cell. Co-localization and interaction studies can be performed, and ion concentrations as well as intra- and intercellular processes like endocytosis and exocytosis can be observed. With the help of super-resolution fluorescence microscopy, it is even possible to image sub-resolution structures.
Micromanipulation
In time-lapse or multi-dimensional experiments, cell manipulation is the starting point for subsequent analysis. Microinjection with DNA, RNA or probes into adherent cells enable the user to better understand pathways and intracellular machinery. DNA, stem cells or spermatozoa microinjection into oocytes or blastocysts are performed to create transgenic or cloned organisms, or to fertilize oocytes for Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART), such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). Furthermore the CRISPR/Cas9 technique is used to produce transgene animals.
